Hello everyone,

Helped my daughter write her letter to father christmas!
Talked her out of an ipod mini (I think she wanted to be like her daddy)!!!Scared
So now its mini china tea set & sylvanian families & disney rapunzel doll! Phew, saves the expense!LOL

Its so lovely, her excitment and the innocent side of life.

I googled father christmas letters, so expensive....I've gone with royal mail where you enclose a stamp.

If I could bottle her happiness for christmas!Wub

What do you/did you do with your children leading up to christmas?

Arhhhhhhh, christmas is such a intoxicating time for children.
We did the royal mail thing with the grandchldren a few years ago, encourages me to do it again this year with the younger ones, thank you.
The eldest one is 12 now, but he absolutely loved receiving the letter back, showed it to everyone and carried it around for days!!
I've bought a book of xmas decs to make this year with them. Will probably do cards with those who want to aswell, I enjoy crafting cards myself, will use up some of my stuff that I can't resist buying!!
Enjoy, love the bottling bit, if only!BigGrin Zena xx

My daughter's favourite Christmas present many years ago cost very little money but a lot of time. She had a Cabbage Patch doll and I saw in John Lewis sewing patterns for their clothes. I cut up old clothes, shirts and even a floral pillow case and made quite a few garments. I did all the sewing when she was at achool and she was delighted on Christmas morning. She spent all day changing the doll's outfits. That must be 25 years ago at least and she still talks about the pleasure that present gave her. I have kept the doll, clothes and patterns and luckily I now have a granddaughter to pass them on to. She will probably be a tomboy though and show no interest at all!

Jane - 5 yr old is the perfect time for Christmas - how I envy you! So much excitement. Mine still look forward to their Advent calendars, and we get the decs out on Dec 1st as part of the countdown.

This site is lovely Norad - don't be put off because it's North American Aerospace Defence Command - they have a Santa tracking map and it shows where Santa is at any time, live all through Christmas eve and onto Christmas day. It might be a bit advanced for your 5yr old, but my kids loved it and we'll probably watch it again this year for a bit of a laugh. The maps are super, with pictures of santa flying over the various worldwide landmarks.

That reminds me I bought an advent candle months ago when I visited Exeter cathedral - now where did I put it!!?? Huh

BigGrin Hi Brenda & Sylvia

That sounds lovely, making dolls cloths - and they've lasted. Never had a cabage patch doll, I may look on amazon later - just to see how much they are.

I remember a friend of the family bought a carebear pattern and made lots to sell back in the 80's, mine was love a lot bear!Love and they were bigger than the shop bought carebears!

The santa tracking website was installed the other day on my hubbies ipad (she goes on everyday.....miss impatient)!

Loving the magical xmas buzz - shame my hubby doesn't feel like that (humbug/strooge)!!! LOL Razz

She came home from school with a gingerbread man she made....singing run run as fast as you can...I'm the gingerbread man! LOL LOL

Oh that's a blast from the past - care bears - I never had one (I think I was too old) but the adverts were everywhere. Funny isn't how christmas brings back all the happy memories,

Hi all,
I've bought a cabbage Patch for my grandaughter this year, £30 from Argos. She has a thing about them and collects them. Mind you so does her mum!!
We have bought them off ebay in the past. Its interesting to see how they have changed in size etc over the years with different makers producing them.

One old one we bought had no clothes but I got hold of a knitting patt. for cothes for it and made a few, a bit old fashioned these days but O.K. and fun.

We had quite a few make and do christmases in years past. Made my girls big rag dolls one year, took ages. They both still have them, now in their 30s.

I collect bears, love them, mainly old ones when I can get hold of them. I have a very old much loved care bear. I think they are being produced again now, must take a look. Still have my own old bear had it off Santa when I was two, he's 60 yrs old now!!

Our youngest is 5 this year and she's over the moon in the zone of all things christmas.

'Punzel' is the item of desire on her list alongside Barbie and polly pocket. She would like a vet set.

Top of the list, BOOBIES

LOL

Michael is 17. He's an adoptive lad and thinks, even 10 yrs in he might not get anything....
So we don't do surprises in general for him and leave his gifts where he can look if he needs to
But I always hold one as a little surprise to try and teach him about anticipation without the horrible bits of feeling unworthy and afraid etc.

This year he has announced he has felt EXCITED
Which means he's able to anticipate he May well get several things on his list
Cool huh?

It's lovely, Christmas time. Jesus would like the parties we have over here I love it the smells, warmth and silly decorations.

Oh, Jenni,
What lovely news about Michael. That really shows all the love and understanding
you and Richard have given him in spades over the years. Does he share anticipation
over the dog? What a lovely run up to Christmas for you all. Dare I ask about Gemma?
Love Anne
